Things to Think About

Like any sports equipment, there are a range of options to choose from when comparing brands and different styles. For starters, be sure you get a bat that is suited to your age and skill level. There are different types of bats for different age groups, each with varying weights and attributes. So it makes sense to get a bat that matches your needs now, not in 5 years’ time.

Buying Information

The best baseball bats feel natural in your hand. They improve your chances of hitting the ball and scoring a home run. With the right bat for you, you’ll feel much more natural and relaxed during play, and the difference will be very noticeable.

Here we point out the key things to look out for when comparing different bats.

Material

The material the bat is made from is very important. New alloy bats generally last longer and give similar performance to the traditional style ash or maple bats. However the latest polypropylene bats which we featured number 1, will outlast even the roughest of players.

Size

Bat size is important and should be matched to your height and arm length. Longer bats are better for larger players, whilst smaller bats are better for younger.

Weight

Bat weight can affect your swing considerably. If the bat is too heavy it will be sluggish during play and you’ll miss many shots. If it is too light you’ll over swing and again miss a lot of balls.

Suitability/classification

Suitability is the last factor you should consider when comparing bats, as not every bat is suitable for high school or junior league matches. There are certain classifications that bats must meet in order to be used on various fields. Contact your club or school to check what they allow on their fields.

Top 3 Best Baseball Bats Reviews

1. Brooklyn Crusher

This bat truly deserves the top place in our list. It’s virtually indestructible and meets all the expectations you could ever hope for in a baseball bat. The Brooklyn Crusher is perfect for competition play, batting practice and also home defence – remember it’s near on indestructible!

Weighing in at just under 2 pounds it’s a lightweight bat that still has enough weight to feel it in your hands. We found the bat to be perfectly balanced, and after just a few swings it felt like an extension of our own body.

The size, of a very comfortable 29 inches, is perfect for almost all players. What we loved most about this bat is its indestructability. We see so many bats breaking in baseball games, usually 8-10 a match, but no matter what we threw at it, the Brooklyn Crusher didn’t dent.

Unlike traditional wood bats with the Brooklyn Crusher there is no need to worry about pieces of wood flying into your face when you hit the ball (and break a bat). It’s one of the safest and most impressive bats on the market we’ve seen to date.

This bat will never rot, decay, fade, bend or break. It will last you a lifetime. And at such an affordable price too!

2. Easton S500

The Easton 2014 S500 is one of the lightest baseball bats in our trials. It felt light as a feather in our hands, yet it was well balanced and easy to use. We found this bat to have an incredibly fast swinging speed that not only allowed us to hit a lot of balls in the “sweet spot” but gave us great agility and accuracy during shots.

For a very affordable price, compared to other bats which range up to $300, the Easton S500 gave superior performance in our trials. The handle on this bat gave great grip to our hands and we never felt like it was slipping at any stage of our swing.

We found that the balls seemed to just jump off of the barrel like a bullet firing from a gun, giving that all too well known “pop” to our shots. This bat is a pure joy to use and will last a long time given the right use.

3. Cat 6

With a one piece alloy construction the Marucci Cat 6 is a wonderfully crafted bat. It’s ideal for competition play and batting practice. This is the only bat in our top 3 that is suitable for high school games. It is slightly larger than the Brooklyn Crusher, coming in at 31 inches.

We found the larger barrel area made it much easier to hit balls consistently during batting practice. The bat tape that Marucci have used on this bat is the best that we saw in all of the bats we studied, it’s just a shame Marucci doesn’t sell it separately.

The anti-vibration technology in this bat ensures that there is no “sting” in your arms after you land a good shot. But rest assured the balls still pop right off the barrel with ease. This is one of the best baseball bats we tested and will improve your game dramatically.
