Keep in Mind When Buying Muay Thai Gloves

When it comes to Muay Thai the type of gloves you need is very different from MMA or boxing. A great Muay Thai glove has the padding of a boxing glove plus some of the movement of the MMA glove.

Your hand, fingers and wrist should be well supported and protected. The glove should hold your hands in the correct fighting position at all times, yet still allow you to flex and stretch when needed. Here we take a look at our top 6 picks.

Buying Information

Muay Thai is an intense combat sport. There are a lot of things to consider before entering the ring. Having just one less worry is a great boost to your mental alertness during a fight, making you a better fighter and more likely to win matches. The right gloves should put your mind at ease and allow you to focus on the opponent in front of you.

  • Tight fitting gloves are a must. Loose fitting gloves will only increase your chances of injury as they don’t support your hands and wrist correctly. Gloves that are too tight on the other hand, will make it hard for you to fight and distract you from your opponent.
  • Moisture wicking is important, and as most Muay Thai gloves are leather, you’ll want a way to let your hands breathe. Most of the higher quality gloves come with air circulation or moisture wicking built in.
  • Padding plays a pivotal role In Muay Thai gloves. Not only will you be throwing many punches and jabs but you’ll also be blocking them. Your gloves need to be able to protect your hands and wrists well enough for you to continue the fight.
  • Like all new gloves, you’ll need to work them in a little bit before your first big fight. New gloves are usually a bit stiff and hard to use, but after a few days of training they’ll be ready for in the ring.

Top 3 Best Muay Thai Gloves Reviews

1. Fairtex BGV1-BR

Fairtex have been around for a long time, and have a long-established name for high quality Muay Thai accessories. Their gloves are superior to everything else we tested on the market. Perhaps it’s because they are all hand-made or maybe it’s the higher quality materials, but one thing is certain.

When you wear a pair of Fairtex, you feel different and you fight better. You’ll win a great deal more matches with a pair of Fairtex on your hands. We found these gloves to have the perfect amount of padding during our fights.

The wrist support was more than enough, and we felt like our hands and wrists were well supported in all of our matches. The stitching is second to none and every material used in their construction is of high quality.

We found these gloves to have great air circulation, and our hands stayed cool even during long matches and training sessions.

2. Fairtex Muay Thai Style

Much like the BGV1-BR these gloves are also handmade and of high quality. Although these have been the standard for Muay Thai professionals for many years, the new and improved version took our top spot only because of an improved air cooling design.

Again we see exceptionally high quality materials in this glove, and the stitching and build quality is superb. There is slightly more padding on these gloves than our top pick, a feature that may appeal to some fighters more than others.

In our matches we didn’t note much of a difference between the two gloves in terms of cushioning our blows. Perhaps a denser more efficient padding system was used in the BGV1-BR’s.

3. RDX F7

With extra-thick padding these gloves are bulky, yet the manufacturer has managed to keep them light. The wrist support was adequate, although not as secure as the Fairtex design. We did however love the air circulation, and this was one of the best Muay Thai gloves for sweaty hands.
